Anyone know of a GOOD historical nonfiction book?

I thoroughly enjoyed David McCollough's "1776." It follows Gen. Washington's battles from Boston to Valley Forge during that year. It's not too long, and in many places reads like a novel. I'm not sure about index and biblio, but it's a great book.
