Windshield Wipers question?

I just bought some Rain X wipers but I have a 2006 Scion XB in the book they say it requires 20 inch blades... Unfortunately I went to 2 Walmart's and they both were out of 20 inch so I purchased 21 inch.. My friend said most cars can have blades an inch bigger... is that true?
